Beambox App Guide: How to Customize Your e-BADGE Display Content — Complete Tutorial 2026

Note: Beambox is a wearable electronic display brand. It is not affiliated with Flux (Stability AI image generator), Flux (lighting brand), or any other company sharing the Beambox name.

Getting Started with the Beambox App

The Beambox app is the control center for your Beambox e-BADGE. Available free on iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play Store), the app handles everything from initial badge pairing to content management and multi-badge fleet control.

This guide walks you through every step — from first download to advanced multi-badge management — so you can get the most out of your Beambox badge.

App requirements:

  • iOS 13.0 or later (iPhone 6s or newer)
  • Android 8.0 or later with Bluetooth 4.0 (BLE) support
  • Bluetooth enabled on your phone
  • Stable internet connection for initial setup and content changes

Downloading and Setting Up

Step 1: Download the app

Search for "Beambox" in the iOS App Store or Google Play Store. The app icon is a stylized badge with the Beambox wordmark. Download and install it like any other app.

Step 2: Create an account (optional)

The Beambox app allows limited use without an account. Creating a free account enables cloud backup of your badge designs, multi-device sync, and access to the template library. For most users, account creation is recommended but not required.

Step 3: Enable Bluetooth

The app requires Bluetooth to communicate with your badge. Enable Bluetooth in your phone's settings before attempting to pair a badge. The app will guide you through this if you haven't enabled it yet.

Step 4: Grant permissions

The app requests permission to access:

  • Bluetooth — required for badge communication
  • Photo library — required for uploading custom images to display
  • Camera — optional; required only if you want to take badge photos directly within the app

Connecting Your Beambox Badge

Power on your badge

Press and hold the power button on your Beambox badge for 2 seconds. The screen will light up, showing the default welcome display or the last content pushed to the badge.

Put the badge in pairing mode

With the badge powered on, press the Bluetooth pairing button (usually the power button pressed briefly while the badge is already on). The badge screen will display a Bluetooth symbol, indicating it is discoverable.

Pair in the app

In the Beambox app, tap the "+ Add Badge" or "Pair New Device" button. The app will scan for nearby Beambox badges. When your badge appears in the list, tap it to initiate pairing.

Confirm pairing

Some phones will display a Bluetooth pairing request. Confirm it to complete the connection. Once paired, the badge will appear in the app's main device list with a "Connected" status.

Troubleshooting pairing issues

If the badge doesn't appear in the scan:

  • Make sure the badge is powered on and in pairing mode (Bluetooth symbol visible)
  • Move your phone closer to the badge
  • Turn Bluetooth off and back on
  • Restart the Beambox app
  • As a last resort, restart the badge by turning it off and on again

Creating Custom Content

The Beambox app provides three main content creation paths: using templates, uploading your own images, and creating text-based designs.

Using Templates

The app includes a library of pre-designed templates optimized for common use cases:

  • Event staff badges — name field, company logo placeholder, role field
  • Conference badges — name, organization, session track
  • Cosplay badges — character portrait frame, name display
  • Brand activation badges — full logo display, QR code, tagline
  • Personal expression — art display frames, quote templates

Select a template, fill in your text fields, optionally upload a logo or image, and tap "Apply to Badge." The content is pushed to your badge over Bluetooth and displayed immediately.

Uploading Your Own Images

For full creative control:

1. Tap "Custom Design" in the app

This opens the design canvas — a blank screen sized to match your badge's display dimensions.

2. Add a background

Choose a solid color, gradient, or upload an image as the background layer. For best results on the Beambox screen, use images sized to at least the badge's native resolution (check your model in the app's settings).

3. Add text

Tap "Add Text" and type your content. Choose from installed fonts, adjust size and color, and position the text on the canvas. The app includes a basic set of fonts; for more options, install additional fonts on your phone — they become available in the app automatically.

4. Add images and logos

Tap "Add Image" to layer in PNGs, JPEGs, or other image files from your photo library. Use the pinch-to-zoom and drag controls to position and resize.

5. Add a QR code

See the "Generating QR Codes" section below.

6. Preview

Tap "Preview" to see how your design will look on the actual badge screen. The preview uses a simulation of the badge screen, accounting for the screen's brightness and color characteristics.

7. Push to badge

When satisfied, tap "Send to Badge." The app compresses and transmits your design to the badge, where it is stored locally.

Adding Animated GIFs

Supported models: Nikko e-BADGE and Niji e-BADGE only. The NN model supports static images only.

To add an animation: 1. Tap "Add Image" as normal 2. Select a GIF file from your photo library 3. Adjust the animation speed in the app (slower = smoother but uses more battery) 4. Preview to confirm the loop works as intended 5. Push to the badge

Note: animated content reduces battery life. Budget for shorter battery life when using animated badges actively throughout the day.

Generating QR Codes

1. Tap "Add QR Code" in the design canvas

2. Enter the URL or content

Paste any web URL, text content, or contact information (vCard format supported). The app generates a QR code instantly.

3. Position the QR code

Drag and resize the QR code on your badge design. For best scan reliability, position the QR code in a high-contrast area of the design (light background, dark QR code, or vice versa).

4. Test before pushing

Use your phone's camera to scan the QR code before pushing to the badge. Confirm it links to the correct content.

5. Customize the QR code color

By default, QR codes are black on white. You can invert this in the app settings. Avoid using colored QR codes on colored backgrounds without testing — contrast is critical for reliable scanning.

QR code tips:

  • Use short URLs where possible to increase scan reliability
  • Test QR codes on multiple phones before the event
  • If using QR codes for lead collection, link to a landing page you control so you can track scans

Managing Multiple Badges

One of Beambox's most powerful features is multi-badge management from a single app.

Adding more badges

Repeat the pairing process with additional badges. Each badge appears in the app's main device list.

Organizing badges into groups

Create groups in the app (e.g., "Staff Day 1," "VIP Badges," "Booth Team"). Assign badges to groups for easier management.

Sending content to multiple badges

Select multiple badges or an entire group, then tap "Push Content." The app sends the same content to all selected badges simultaneously — useful for pushing event-wide updates to all staff badges at once.

Batch content scheduling

For multi-day events, schedule content changes in advance. The app can push pre-scheduled content at designated times, so Day 1 badges automatically update to Day 2 content without manual intervention.

Badge assignment tracking

Name each badge in the app (e.g., "Booth Staff 01," "Media Badge 03") so you can track which physical badge is assigned to which person. This makes collection and recharging at the end of an event more organized.

Battery Life Tips

Reducing battery drain:

  • Use static content when animation is not needed
  • Lower the screen brightness in the app's badge settings (if your model supports brightness control)
  • Turn off the badge when not in use — it retains its display content even when powered off
  • Carry a portable battery pack for emergency top-ups at all-day events

Charging:

  • Use the included USB-C cable and a standard USB charger
  • A full charge takes approximately 2 hours
  • The badge displays a charging indicator on the screen when connected to power

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Badge display is frozen on the last content Turn the badge off and on again. If the issue persists, try re-pairing the badge in the app.

Content won't push to badge Ensure Bluetooth is connected and the badge is within range (10 meters). Close other Bluetooth apps that may be competing for the connection. Restart the Beambox app and retry.

QR code won't scan Check the QR code contrast. Avoid placing QR codes over busy or colored backgrounds. Regenerate the QR code and try again. Test with multiple phones.

App won't find my badge Make sure the badge is powered on and in pairing mode. Check that your phone's Bluetooth is enabled. Try moving the phone closer to the badge.

Badge screen is dim If your model supports brightness control, adjust it in the badge settings. In direct sunlight, screen visibility decreases naturally — this is not a defect.

Multiple badges are all showing the same content You may have accidentally pushed the same content to multiple badges. To update individual badges selectively, open the badge's detail view in the app and push content to that specific badge rather than using the multi-select feature.

FAQ

Can I use the app without creating an account? Yes. Basic badge control, content creation, and QR code generation work without an account. An account is required for cloud backup and multi-device sync.

Can I control my badge from a tablet? Yes. The app is optimized for phones but also works on tablets.

Does the app work in airplane mode? Bluetooth communication with the badge requires the phone to be on and in range. The app cannot push content updates in airplane mode. However, the badge continues displaying its last-received content independently.

How do I reset my badge to factory settings? In the app, go to badge settings → advanced → factory reset. This clears all stored content and pairing information from the badge.

Can I control someone else's badge remotely? No. Beambox uses direct Bluetooth pairing between the phone and the badge. You can only push content to badges that are paired to your phone.
